Community Initiatives
Our Next Community Initiative
Love Ashford
Food and Drink Festival
On Wednesday, 17th July 2024 between 10:30am – 2pm, Ashford & Tenterden Umbrella is opening its doors to the wider local community. We welcome you to create your special family recipe and bring it with you where you can then share food with others and have a chat. Trying each other’s special family food and reminiscing is a great way to bring people together. Enjoying fellowship around food can also bring a boost to your mental wellbeing. We look forward to seeing you then and sampling your memorable recipes.
About Community Initiatives
Communities frame human existence. We come together to celebrate festivals, traditions and the lives of individuals. Bereavement is also experienced as a community. In our community involvement we aim to dance with the merry and mourn with those who experienced loss.
We are involved with many community projects in Ashford and neighbouring villages. Some of the projects we have initiated and others we have joined in to support our passionate community leaders.
Below are short introductions to the projects we are involved with. Please get in contact if you would like more information or if you would like to get involved yourself!
Other Community Initiatives
To Absent Friends
Every first Thursday of the month we hold a bereavement morning at our offices. These are informal drop in events where people who have experienced loss can come together. This is a safe space to share stories, memories, and emotions with others who are on a similar journey of grief. This is an informal event that is open to everyone, not just clients of ours.
Environmental Responsibility
At Willow and Green we aim to have a better understanding of the impact our business processes and services have on the environment than most funeral service providers. This understanding stems from our deliberate endeavours to educate ourselves and learn from the market leaders like “Green Globe Awards”, the Green Funeral Director association as well as initiatives by KCC and Ashford Borough Council.
Keepsake Recipes
Losing someone dear to us leaves a huge hole in our lives, but it also provides an opportunity to celebrate their life in meaningful ways. One beautiful way to keep their memory alive is through recipes—those cherished dishes that evoke nostalgia, warmth, and connection. Because of the power these memories of shared meals have in our lives we would love to invite you to create and share recipes that honour your loved ones.
Creative Arts Sessions
Art has the power to change lives. Whilst doing it people experience enjoyment in their ability to express themselves, but the impact extends much further than the immediate experience. Art creates opportunities for people to connect with others, whether it’s attending a live performance, creating art together or participating in a community project, art can help foster understanding and compassion for others. At the same time this can broaden our horizons as we are introduced to new ideas and perspectives.
